MONDAY 8TH NOVEMBER

Today Kelly has been with us, also Paqui has started with the end of the explanation about the socialist economic system.
First she has explained how centrally planned economies worked and his problems
Some of this problems are:
-Production was focused on some industries.
-The minority who made the decisions.
-The system was very rigid and it was very difficult to adapt.
-The development of black market.
When Paqui has finished the explanation of this we have read a mini-cartoon about economy works in a capatitalist system . This cartoon is a joke that play with different meanings of the word demand:

1) I demand
2) Demand

One more thing: the picture is the Gosplan, the office that plannified all the productions of the U.S.S.R. ( Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). It was located in Moscow and decided on the production of all the country.

When the bell rings we were starting another definition: Caveat Emptor.
This is all today.

Hello Laura,

Here you have my corrections about the content of your journal:

- It is better that you write: "started the class with the end of the explanation about the socialist..." This way it would be clearer.

- Then it would be better that you write that I have explained "how centrally planned economies worked" and then the problems, as you have written them.

- About the comic, you can add that it´s a cartoon of Calvin and Hobbes about how economy works in a capitalist system. The joke is a play on words with the different meanings of the word demand.

Remember that you have to pay attention to verb tenses. In the last sentence, you have to change one verb to present perfect.

And one last thing: can you explain what´s the image you´ve included? The other students don´t know what´s the picture about and they will understand when you explain it.

Anyway, good job. Remember to read your classmates comments and correct the mistakes they find. See you on Wednesday!

Well done,

Good Laura!, but Paqui han Kelly has explained too that this system SOCIALIST was used in Cuba and if the goverments only wanted to produce for example weapons, the industries produced only it, and some people bought all the weapons and the rest have to go to this people and the persons who has them, selledt he weapons more expansive and in this way they got money.
I think that only this.
Bye

Hello, anonymous Rebeca ;)

I only wnat to specify something about your comment: The shortage of products happened with consumer goods, not with weapons. Weapons were a product the governments decided to produce, but they were not within reach of normal people. The production was focused on some products and the factories didn´t produce what people really needed. This is why the black market developed: to sell the products people needed, but at expensive prices. I hope this is clearer now.

Mónica, try to review Laura´s post and find mistakes that she can correct. There are some word order mistakes and some verbs. Come on, try to find them!
