More about fiscal fraud and tax evasion

Fiscal fraud is an important problem in Spain. The Spanish fiscal fraud is ten points higher (23 %) than the average of the European Union (13%). Tax inspectors calculate that fiscal fraud is around 40,000 million €. Can you imagine how many things could be done with this money?

You can find further information in Spanish in the following links:

In this link you can find a definition of tax haven and bank secrecy:

Here you´ll find a short story of tax havens and a big number: the millions (trillions) of dollars experts calculated that were hidden in tax havens in 2007: 7,300,000,000,000 $:

And here it is an updated list of tax havens in the world and the classification the G-20 established last year:

I think it's incredible how people lie and they hide money. In my opinion, they are a too much selfish. THIS IS VERY STRONG!!!

Yes, Laura, this is very strong. The money they hide is money that can´t be used in investments to improve the tasks the States do: justice, education, public works, social benefits, security... This is harmful for all of us. There are many people that are not rich who pay the taxes. The employees can´t hide their wages and can´t avoid paying taxes. They don´t have tax consultants who advise them where to hide their money.

For me one of the main problems is the existence of tax havens, that is, those countries that take advantage of greed and crime. And the lack of control of finances as well. Money circulates around the world very easily and without control. An economist called James Tobin proposed to establish a tax over or the international financial transactions. This is called the "Tobin tax" and it would be a way of controlling all this money that escapes to tax havens, but the international economic "authorities" don´t agree with this.

Anyway, fiscal fraud is not only a matter of rich people. In Spain we have a lot of fraud among ordinary people. This is a very sad reality for me.

Thanks for your comments!

I think that the Robin's idea is great, but economic authorities disagree because it is bad for them. You are welcome!

The real problem is that the supposed economic authorities don´t have much authority :(
