Monday 24th of January

Today we have started the class correcting one ejercice about CAP, that is the common agricultural policy. We have talked about the main problems are:
- Subsidies to abandom crops and subsidies to recover the same crops a few years later.
-Very rich producers who don´t live from agriculture receive subsidies.
-Shortage of some products due to the subsidies ´policy of abandoning certain production(milk).
-The import of some products damages the prices and beneficts of the farmers.

And the main actions are:
-The EU gives subsidies to the farmers to keep some crops or to abandom some others.
-The EU signs trade agreements with some countries to import their products at a cheaper price.

We have talked about fishing. Paqui has told us that Spain has a big fishing power, it has thousand of kilometers of coasts and there are a lot of indutries related to fish. Also paqui has told us that overfishing reduced the territories that are from Spain, this fact obliged to Spain to look for fishing in other places. Paqui has given to us a sheet of paper that talks about CAP news. But that´s not fair because the 73%of the recipients are part-time,and they received 17% of the CAP subsidies. And the 22% of the recipients are full-time farmers and they got 60% of the subsidies. Finally as of navember 2010 it si forbidden to make the list of the list of the CAP recipients public, because a court of justice has considered that this is a violation of the law of protection of personal data. Today kelly has been with us.

See you on wednesday.

Hello Dani,

I think you should order the content of your post in a better way:

- First, write everything related with the CAP.

- After this, write everything that has to do with fishing in Spain.

You´ve mixed these two topics and it´s difficult to understand the development of the lesson.

I´m going to wait to your classmates´ corrections, but there is a mistake you have made several times: We have took. "Took" is the past of the verb "to take" and I think you wanted to use the verb "to talk". What is the past participle of this verb? What is the Present Perfect of this verb?

The image you have choosen is very good.

Please, check what I´ve told you. Bye!

Sorry, I´ve made a mistake: the image you have chosen.

Hello!Good reflective Dani but I think you have to include that we have learned new words, corrected one exercise, and Dani has explained the answer of the Friday's Challenge, Paqui has talked about the pirates in Africa and the trawling..
I see one grammar mistake:
-When you say: we have TAKEN ,I think you want to say we have talked and this phrase isn't complete.
I think it's all but change some words'letters!
See you tomorrow!

I have liked the class of today, because I think CAP is very interesting and I think that the subsidies they give to the people are unfair...
See you!

If you think in the CAP seriously you can extract some interesting conclusions:

- The initial idea of the CAP was good, but bureaucracy and different interests have transformed it in something different.

- Farmers wouldn´t need subsidies if they got fair prices in the markets or at least more than they have invested to produce their products.

- Every farmer can choose if they want to get the subsidies or not. It´s a personal decision. If you don´t apply for the subsidies, you don´t get them and you don´t have to follow the directives of the EU.

- One aspect we haven´t talked about is that the subsidies the EU products (and also the USA products) receive are an unfair competition for the products of the developing countries. They have to pay high customs duties and they find it very difficult to compete with the susidized products of the developed countries.

- The CAP needs a reform, because there are many controversial aspects in it (like the subsidies to part-time farmers or the subsidies to very rich people).

I think this is a very rich topic to discuss, because it has many faces and it´s an interesting way of learning that we can´t have absolute opinions. I´m glad you like it. Thanks for your cooperation.

And thank you, Bea and Rebeca as well. Let´s hope that the boys correct their journals.

Dani, review again the structure of your post. Yo´ve mixed the information about the CAP with the information about fishing in Spain.

Correct some capital letters yiu´ve forgotten in proper nouns (Kelly, Paqui) and the days of the week and months.
