Challenge number 7

This week you will have to research on the Spanish production of energy. The questions refer to different renewable energy sources. They are not very difficult:

QUESTION 1

What is the autonomous community that concentrates more wind farms?

QUESTION 2

What has been the record of production of electricity coming from wind power?

QUESTION 3

What´s this? Where is this facility located?

QUESTION 4

There is a peculiar solar farm in Manzanares and another one is being built in Fuente el  Fresno. What kind of solar farms are these? How do they work?

QUESTION 5

Where is located the only wave energy plant in Spain?

QUESTION 6

What is the Zèfir Test Station? Where will it be located?

QUESTION 7

What are the European Union objectives of renewable energy production for 2010?

Cheer up! Be more active!

- QUESTION 1:
The autonomous community that concentrates more wind farms is Galicia.
QUESTION 2:
On 9th-11-10, the maximum power output was reached being 14,960 MW.
- QUESTION 3:
It's the most solar complex farm in Europe, and it is built in Seville. It produces electricity through 624 mobile giant mirrors called heliostats.
- QUESTION 4:
Both of them are solar towers.
They consist on a tower of 1km high(more or less) that has turbines of 6,25 MW each one. The air heated by the surface avobe plastics, goes up through the chimney and moving turbines that generates energy.
- QUESTION 5:
It is located in Berria beach (Santoña) in Cantabria.
- QUESTION 6:
Zérfir Test Station is an international research facility for testing offshore wind turbines in deep water. It will have 4 turbines anchored to the seabed and 8 floating wind turbines will be installed about 30 miles offshore. It will be located in Tarragona.
- QUESTION 7:
The objectives are:
*22% of electricity and 12% of primary energy are the product of renewable energy in 2010.
*Demand of energy from renewable sources will have to be satisfied by other different means of national production until 2020.

Question 1:
The autonomous community with more wind farms is Galicia.
Question 2:
The maximum power reached is 14,962 on 9th-November-2010.
Question 3:
It's a solar thermal power plant, the first commercial plant of this characteristics of the world. It's called PS10. It's located in Sanlucar la Mayor (Sevilla).
Question 4:
They are solar towers. They consists of a chimney (normally black) that gets hot during the day and heats the air in it, with the differences of temperature the air try to escape very fast and it moves some turbines which are in the inner part of the chimney.
Question 5:
It is located in Santoña (Cantabria). It's only a project.
Question 6:
It's a facility that consists on test wind turbines to produce energy in the middle of the sea instead of be in the land.
Question 7:
They want to produce 20% of the energy from renewable energy and each year the want to improve in 1.5% the renewable energy until 2010.

hi!
Question 1:

The autonomus community that concentrates more wind farms is Galicia.

Question 2:

The lats record of the production of the wind power was on the 14th of January f 2010, which this power produced the 42% of the Spanish' demand

Question 3:

In the picture we can see the solar park of Sanlúcar la Mayor in Seville. It's form by a solar tower of 150 metres high with lot of mirrors that reflect the sun to the panels. This park it's opened since 2007 and it can be use for 25 years.

Question 4:

these solar parks have solar photovoltaic panels, it means that the panels follow the sun, like the sunflowers.

Question 5:

the wave energy plant in Spain is located near the coast of Santoña. This plant gives energy to 1.500 families of the town. It's formed by 10 buoys and it has between 1,25 and 2 megawatts of power.

Question 6:

It's a project in which some elecrical companies contribute.
It's consits in 2 parts:
-the first one consist anclar 4 wind turbines 3,5 km farther of the coast with less than 20 MG of power.
-Finally ther will be another 4 or 6 wind turbines floating that will be installed at 30 kilometres of the coast and they are going to sum a maximum of 50 MG.

Question 7:

The objective is that te renewable energies make the 12% of the energy necessities of the European Union and the 22% of the electric necessities.

I almost did not write...BYE =) Muak!!

Hello everybody,

The three of you have given 6 right answers, but your answer to question 1 is wrong: Castila y León concentrates more wind farms (3,824 in 2009), although Galicia produces more Megawatts (MW) with wind power.

The best answer to question 2 is Dani´s.

In question 3 we have a draw.

The best answer to question 4 is Bea´s

The best answer to question 5 is Dani´s

The best answer to question 6 is Bea´s

On question 7 we have another draw.

So this week´s winners are Bea and Dani (again!. Javi, you´ve also done a good work!
